Mv Florece sinks in Bay of Biscay

seven crew men have been rescued from their liferafts after their ship sank in the Bay of Biscay.
Coastguard crews from Falmouth as well as Spain, France and the US responded to the collision
that occurred 240 miles south-west of Land's End.

The Dominic Republic flagged cargo ship, Mv Florece IMO 8906353 sank after colliding with the
Bahamas flagged chemical tanker Afrodite IMO 9292620.

All seven onboard the Florece managed to escape onto liferafts and were picked up by the nearby
container ship Ocean Titan.

Crew members from Mt Aphrodite say they attempted to launch their fast rescue craft but were
unsuccessful due to the heavy swell. The chemical tanker sustained only minor damage during the collision.
